Meet the Millers

The Miller family (name changed to protect confidentiality) have had a challenging time.  Mr. Miller has some serious health issues that have affected his eyesight to the point he can’t drive.  He was referred to us by several of our partner service organizations because his social security income doesn’t even cover his rent.  His landlord has been generous enough to give him a reduced rate on his rent, which gives him just enough money to have a cell phone for emergencies. The only money they have for food are the food stamps they receive, and his biggest concern when we met with him was how he was going to get shoes and school supplies for his eight and nine year old boys.  They had been promised help in the past but no one carried through and he didn’t know what he was going to do.  We talked to him about the Carlisle for Kids event hosted by Project Share and the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County but since he can’t drive, that wasn’t an option for him.  After brainstorming as a staff, we contacted the United Way and they are putting together a backpack and shoes for us to deliver to the family personally.  We are also working with several of our partner organizations to help the family with some long-term solutions for housing and utility bills

The Miller family is a great example of the difference your donation to Maranatha-Carlisle makes to those who need our help.  Sometimes people think we only pay people’s bills for them, but that just scratches the surface of what we do.  Often, such as was the case with the Millers, we also provide case management support through our community partners.  This gives them the peace of mind they need to be able to focus on their other needs.  We were able to help the Miller family address a short-term need (back to school supplies and shoes) while helping them with more long-term solutions.  All this is possible because of your generosity so thank you to our donors for making success stories like this possible!!!  If you would like to donate to help us help more people like the Millers, you can do so here. Please put the name “Miller” into the notes section so we can let them know how their story is helping us help others.  To stay updated on the activities of Maranatha-Carlisle, sign up for our email list here.
