“Financial Counseling Services changes lives”…those were the words of Scott Dixson, a caseworker at the Salvation Army, in 2001 as he met with members of Samaritan Fellowship to discuss financial counseling options. They were convinced there was a need, beyond setting up a budget, for some of those who came to Samaritan Fellowship seeking financial assistance. In the fall of 2002, a meeting of representatives from local agencies was held in Carlisle. The Director of Financial Counseling Services, a Chambersburg ministry, outlined the financial management concept. The representatives were enthusiastic and more meetings followed. In January, 2003, the Carlisle office was opened as a branch of the Chambersburg ministry in the United Way building. About this same time, the name of the ministry was changed to Maranatha.
